Teresa and I left at 8:03 and headed to Albion. We had lots of traffic at first but beautiful weather, and the traffic cleared out a lot once we got past Cranberry. We were the first to arrive at the farm but Dick and Bobbie were right behind us. Then Barb came. We all worked hard cleaning things out and throwing things away. We are getting better at that. We had a good time cleaning and working and sharing and discovering things together. Like this nut bowl and hammer. It was dull and scratched – I rubbed it with lemon oil and it turned out to be beautiful!
Teresa really got in there and was busy all day. SHE thanked ME when we got home, because she loved being at the farm and all the memories. Theresa actually found the childhood memory book I have been looking for since June. I was very excited and having been reading a few pages. Here is a favorite so far, which Mom wrote on January 23rd’s page.
Question: Tell about the naughtiest thing you ever did. If you got caught, describe the consequences. “Hazel and I were painting the big kitchen. Uncle Edd kept telling us we were doing it wrong (we probably were). I was up on the step ladder and when he came close and pointed and said I had missed a spot I reached over and painted his bald head. I don’t remember what punishment I got but I was very ashamed I had did such a thing.” I think that is pretty funny…
Everything gets covered with dust from the road, as did all the cars. Then it sprinkled rain for about 5 minutes. My car was brown spotted like it had chicken pox! So I came home and washed it, then stuck it in the garage.
For a few days I will share Mom’s quotes – I’ll get back to sermons after that!
On this day in 1859 the first successful oil well was drilled near Titusville, PA, by Edwin Drake – Drake’s well – and I’ve been there! In 1955 the first copy of the Guinness Book of Records was bound, and in 1964 Mary Poppins premiered. Lyndon B Johnson, 36th President, was born in 1908. Tommy Sands, teen idol, in 1937, and Daryl Dragon (Captain and Tennille) in 1942; Pee-wee Hermon, comic actor, in 1952. In 1966 Joe Biden married Neilla Hunter.
TOMORROW August 28 is:
- National Thoughtful Day
- National Red Wine Day
- National Power Rangers Day
- National Bow Tie Day
- National Cherry Turnovers Day
- Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day
And yes, Rainbow Bridge Remembrance is in honor of a beloved pet that has ‘crossed over’. I will think of Tazz tomorrow. Maybe even read one of the marvelous stories he wrote, some of which were published! Happy weekend, everyone! God bless…
