Happy Birthday Nate!

Well, I know what Nate and I were doing on October 17, 1981! I feel a lot more relaxed today than I did then! The years since then watching my son grow into a fine, loving, good man, great father and wonderful son have been very rewarding. Happy birthday, Nathan Wade! Love you!

Yep – That’s Nate!
Wrapped in Duct tape!
Weddings affect him this way….

Oh, and I understand that in addition to the two trays of chocolate chip scones that I sent down to him yesterday, Jen is getting his favorite Jioio’s pizza for supper! THAT’s a real treat.

Makes me hungry just looking at the picture!

Do you believe that Countdown to Christmas movies start tomorrow? I don’t watch them all and I don’t watch it all day and evening, but I am excited to see some of my favorites, like Haul out the Holly, Biltmore Christmas, Godwink Christmas, and a few more on the top of my list!

A Biltmore Christmas

Work was long today, because we had a few problem deals and an outside deal, and several ‘normal’ deals. Then I had to stop at the bank, grab a few cards at Dollar Tree, and make a 30 second run-in to Walmart for one item!

I was able to organize the Dillweed items, and get the Christmas and Easter Snoopys out for Trunk or Treat. While I had the car out of the garage I decided to sweep it out.

I did a quick scope of the hill, and there’s not much left to clean up. Maybe by next week I’ll be able to finish that!

Little corner of the hill.

I came inside, got some ‘office’ type work done, and am having a cup of hot tea. Also, I like the little bench behind the table all decked out for fall.

And just for fun, here is another picture of our favorite little guy!

My blessing today was to clean up the messy deals at work, and to talk to Rege about his friend’s funeral.

Happy 18th birthday to Jesse and Tonia’s son Isaac! Can’t believe he’s 18 already, and a senior in high school; and the top drummer in the Mt. Pleasant High School Band! Have a great year, Isaac!

All I did today was clean and do laundry. I took the trash up to the road, and the mail had not gone yet. I haven’t even been back outside to check again, so I’ll get it in the morning. The most exciting thing that happened to me was talking with my life-long friend Gen from New York. It was good to catch up – talking to her is always an encouragement and a joy for me!

My focus today will be on two things: Christmas fun and clouds! I had to get groceries on the way home from work, so when I walked past the Ritz cracker display – look what I found! They used to have snowflake shapes. This year they are more fun!

I was able to get the ironing done, and a few chores around the house, and mixed up the scones Nate wants for his birthday. They need to be mixed up, kept refrigerated overnight, and baked in the morning. So I will take them down tomorrow when he gets home from work. His birthday is Thursday.

Scones mixed and ready for baking in the morning.

I spent part of the afternoon finishing my summer medical journey – typed it all out and saved it. I tried to do that for my medications, too, but I knew I had missed some. I called Giant Eagle and asked if they could print out a list of my prescriptions from June first. By the time I got off the phone they were printed and ready for me! So once I got caught up on my work, I drove over (it’s only a few miles down the road) and picked up the copy. But while I was there, I found Christmas OREO cookies, necessary for making holiday Oreo Ice Cream! Yea! And little boxes of baggies with snowmen. So all these things that I normally have to look for during the holidays were right in front of me. So just bought them a little early.

The sky was very dramatic and I couldn’t resist taking pictures of the clouds and even the trees. There aren’t too many colorful trees in my neighborhood so I gave them some air space!

And took a picture of the deck lights, just for fun!

My blessing today was feeling well enough to get things done!

I had lots to do in Jeannette today, having missed work on Thursday. But I was in no hurry, and was home about noon without any extra stops. When I got home I decided to make veggie soup so it will be ready in about an hour.

So now, Cameron’s party. I stayed pretty quiet for the most part, and just sat and talked to people and watched Cameron run around having fun. There were a lot of young people there – Autmn and Noah’s friends and siblings – and they were good at chasing Cameron.

The younger crowd – except for Matt, on the far right.
They got busy doing balloons!

Autmn did all the planning, baking, designating, getting food and supplies, making photo display, and organizing the whole event. When we got there everyone was asking to help, so she gave them all chores and things got done. Sherree and I put the centerpieces together on the tables. Then we snitched some chips and dip!

Sherree and I started nibbling early…

Autmn designed, made, decorated the cupcakes. They were very good!
Cameron’s Happy First Birthday cake!
Autmn did this herself.

Then they ordered pizza, too.

Autmn wanted to surprise her dad with the homemade butterscotch pie and the ‘Puppers’ shirt. She even had a birthday crown for him. She was very excited to give him honor for his special day. I think he WAS surprised.

My handsome son!

Look close – Autmn has Cameron’s crown on and Nate has a crown too.

Cameron was stripped of his clothes (except for diaper) and given his ‘1’ cake. As it was black and white checked the black icing really made a mess. He had it everywhere, of course, but he didn’t attack it. He just approached it calmly and smeared it everywhere!

What should I do?
Gentle attempt at the cake
Cameron with icing all over his face – and chair, and stomach, and legs, and…
Singing to the birthday boys – Josie (Autmn’s little sister) has the pie; Noah has the cake.

He got a lot of really cute clothes – people are so creative. He got toys and books and blocks and even diapers. I think he’s set for the winter! He also got a few toys and a stuffed doll for Miss Rachel. If you don’t know the show I’m surprised! He loves watching it, and it’s a learning show.

It was fun to see them all having a good time. Noah is really a big help and a great dad. They both did a nice job hosting the party. Love you guys!

My blessing today was calls from both Dr. Pirzada and Dr. Cole – hope things are moving in the right direction!

I am NOT used to taking a Sunday morning at home. I knew my cough wasn’t ready to go to church, especially if I had to teach. So I took the morning to catch up with myself and get ready for the coming week. I tried not to plan anything until Friday, when we have a Skunk Hollow Event.

Not this kind of skunk…..

Oatmeal was my breakfast, then I got ready and went to Youngwood to Cameron’s party. I had Nate’s birthday pie (Butterscotch) and candles, the shirts Kelly made for the birthday crew, and Cameron’s gift (also Nate’s card – his birthday is Thursday). The party was at Youngwood VFW – it was a nice space and plenty of room for the little party. I am going to post details and photos tomorrow and finish the day off just being quiet. I don’t even have to eat supper – we had fruit and veggies and pizza and cupcakes. Plenty!

Noah, Cameron and Autmn

While I was getting ready this morning I was blow-drying my hair, sort of helter-skelter, and when I was done I noticed how gray the underside of my hair is! Won’t be long until it works its way to the outside and I’m totally gray!

I’m not a fan of selfies but this was interesting!

The blessing today for sure was the wonderful family and friends who gathered to celebrate Cameron’s first birthday! (And Nate’s too!)

Kelly and I both got up a little before 8am. I was in low gear but slept better than I have in a while so I was relieved about that. I got a shower first – Kelly bought me some shower spray that I tried. Seemed to work ok. Not sure I used enough but I could smell it. You just spray it on the walls in the shower after you’ve turned it on and before you step in.

While Kelly was in the shower I changed the sheets on my bed. I also switched to flannel sheets, added an extra blanket for cold weather, and put on the winter bedspread. I love the dark plum color.

After breakfast (she had a scone; I had toast) she cut up veggies for a salad she needed for later today and I sat like ordered in the living room chair! Then she mixed up the homemade bread while I gave her the directions and ingredients. We both cleaned up the kitchen, and by then Autmn dropped off a few things for Cameron’s party tomorrow. Then Kelly left as she had a birthday party to attend at a friend’s house.

The little end table by the couch had white spots on it that would not wipe off. I sat for a long time and looked at it, trying to figure out what to do. I finally took a little knit dish scrubbie and Dawn Dish detergent and wiped it off. Let it set a few minutes, rubbed it dry, and it appears to be back to normal. It’s an antique piece so I didn’t expect perfection, but it looks better than it has in a long time.

Turned out better than I thought

I just put the bread in the oven. While I was up there I remembered to turn on the little pumpkin tea light that I have on the cutting board.

That’s all I was given permission to do today! So I’ll take the bread out of the oven and watch something on TV, and read a few chapters in my book. And this was supper – I’m waiting to have a slice of Homemade Bread!

My blessing today was having Kelly here to help me the past 3 days, and seeing Autmn and Cameron for five minutes!

Thanks for being patient! The minute I got up Thursday I called my doctor, and she had me come in right away. Gave me a strong dose of antibiotic and a slip for a chest xray. I spent all of yesterday on the couch and did nothing but sleep and cough and sneeze. Didn’t even eat a bite. I was up most of the night, too. But Kelly got here about 5pm and took charge. I was glad to have her here.

Doctor’s Office Halloween Tree

Yesterday afternoon Autmn and Cameron stopped in for a minute. She was going to see her sister Summer. I was sorry I couldn’t get around the baby or play with him but it sure was fun to at least see him!

He was waving Bye!

After a quick breakfast this morning I saw the horses on the hill. It was a beautiful, sunny day and it looked like they were happy outside.

Kelly took me down for my chest x-ray. It was clear but they want to do another CT scan. Ugh. I have to wait for them to schedule that. Dr. Tammy suggested I call my pulmonologist. Ugh again. She did not impress me. But it took 7 months for me to get that appointment so it’s unlikely I can switch – probably have to wait a year!

While I was sitting on the recliner all day today I finished my Child Abuse Reporting training. Kelly had to show me how to print the certificate!

I plan to stay home all day tomorrow – If I’m not coughing I will go to church Sunday. I can’t take this horrid cough to church!

I usually stay in bed a bit longer on Wednesday and Friday, and read a chapter or two in my current book. This morning I didn’t. I had a lot of things I wanted to do. So I made a piece of French toast for breakfast and then got started cleaning. And this post will be short because all I did was clean and mow!

I got the upstairs done, had lunch, then started downstairs. Took the trash up, did a load of laundry. I knew that I had several things going on the rest of the week, so I wanted to get the yard mowed. I did that, and also got the weed-whacking done.

It looks like the lamb’s ear is not dying off as quickly as I was hoping. Just have to give it more time, I guess.

I found myself coughing a bit more today, which makes me tired. I just took 2 Tylenol and hope that gives me some energy. Not much more to do this evening.

I started my day getting the follow-up bloodwork done. It was to monitor certain medications to make sure they weren’t upsetting my balance. Of what, I’m not entirely sure, but one thing was potassium. From there I went to work, but there was nothing ready for me. Ken was there and we chatted while I ate my breakfast muffin and tea.

When I got home I saw a post from Rege that his very close friend – who has been ill with cancer for months – passed away this morning. I know he went to see him this morning, so not sure if he was there at the time. But I know he will be grieving for his friend and his family. Please keep Rege, and Rich’s family, in your prayers.

As usual I had a list for today, and I chipped away at it most of the afternoon. I told Tonia I would take supper to them, so I left here, picked it up and took it down to them. It really had a tempting aroma and it was hard not to pull over and devour the entire content. It was angel hair pasta, Italian bread, and salad. Plus I took them a few Chocolate Chip Scones for breakfast.

I had entertained the idea of mowing this evening, but I opted to work on the inside list instead. I got a txt from Kelly earlier and she is coming up Thursday night to go with me to Ft. Ligonier Days on Friday. So that made my day! Yea!

I did take the back way home, and drove down Shady Lane. I passed the house where I grew up, and my Grama Steiner’s house, and Cole’s Pond (THAT is a story in itself!). They put a new bridge in across from the pond – and it looks very different.
