January 1, 2021

It’s going to take me a while to remember to type 2021! First I just want to wish all of you a wonderful year – may it be safe and happy and fun and blessed, and filled with people you love and who appreciate you!

I spent the entire day going through Christmas decoration boxes, organizing and cleaning them out and getting rid of a few things that I didn’t want or were broken. Why do we keep those things? Ugh! It’s nice to have them packed neatly and in an orderly fashion. When I put my day-to-day items back in my rooms, I even got rid of some of that! It’s time for a cleansing! My favorite addition is the deer I brought back from John’s. Reminds me of my story and makes me smile! I did, however, make a total mess while I was working. I feel very grungy…

Charlie Brown had a great idea – but it was cold and raining icy pellets and windy – did a mile on the treadmill and called it done!

A walk in the woods is a super great idea!!!

I will share Paul’s message from last week – Good things come to those who wait. Simeon and Anna waited their whole lives to see the Messiah – They both were at the temple every day, even in their 80’s. There is no retirement from serving God! What we can learn from their faithful waiting: 1) God has faithful worshipers even in the darkness. 2) The gates of hell will never prevail against God. Simeon and Anna lived lives of fruitfulness and faith as they waited. Simeon immediately thanked God for this amazing blessing. The question is: What are YOU waiting for???

On this day in 1863 Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation to free slaves in US Confederate states. In 1881 Dr. Watson was introduced to Sherlock Holmes in a story written by Arthur Conan Doyle. Edsel Ford succeeded his father – Henry Ford – as President of Ford Motor Company in 1919, and Johnny Cash played his first free concert behind bars in 1960. In 1976 the Liberty Bell was moved to its new home behind Independence Hall (Philadelphia). Hank Williams died at age 29 in 1953, and Patti Page died in 2013 at age 85. In 1772 Thomas Jefferson married Martha Skelton. Paul Revere was born in 1735, Anthony Wayne in 1745, Betsy Ross in 1752, and J. Edgar Hoover in 1895. And my friend and fellow author Jim Gresham is celebrating a birthday today. Happy birthday, Jim! Hope your year is wonderful!
