TODAY is the 5th anniversary of Mom’s passing. Miss you, Mom!

Here it is – the first ‘ber’ month! And it’s 85 plus degrees! I was outside for about half an hour after Dom mowed and I came in sweating. Not sure how he manages to make it though the whole yard in this heat. But he headed home to cut his own grass.

I cleaned the whole house today and washed a load of towels, then did a few small repair chores. I was just finishing when Dom came to mow. I still have a few small things to do if I don’t run out of steam – like, I need to switch the wooden Snoopy calendar to September, and that takes some time.

So – back to day two of vacation. Tuesday morning we had breakfast at the resort – I had a cinnamon coffee cake which was delicious. I wish I had noticed who makes them (they were packaged!). Then Kath and I walked down to the Visitor Center (just a few steps away) and had to wait 10 minutes until it opened. We sat by the waterfall and watched the butterflies and listened to the sound of the water.

We did a little shopping and took our packages back to the room. After that we watched the Story of a Patriot before heading to the historic area. Love that movie!

We took the shuttle down and walked the streets for about 45 minutes, then went over to the Art Museum auditorium. Martha Washington was speaking – she’s very educated and informed, and also very funny.

We popped into a few trade sites and then grabbed a bite of lunch. Our first stop was the Raleigh Tavern where we learned about the meetings the Burgesses held there when they were ‘dissolved’ by the governor, and people who stopped for food or drink, and balls or parties that took place.

We enjoyed walking around the streets and taking pictures of houses. The sky – all three days – was an absolutely beautiful blue with white puffy clouds. It was a delight to be outside – although it was very warm – upper 80’s. We took our time. Which is a first for us!

The Peyton Randolph House was open for tours, and the guide was very informed. We were able to walk through the whole house and get the stories of the enslaved people who worked there, as well as the family, friends, and relatives who visited.

Again, we just walked around town and popped into buildings and talked to people who were milling about. We went back to the room and had a light meal before heading down for our evening program.

Tuesday night’s program was Haunted Williamsburg, and we went into the Geddy House, the Wythe House and the Randolph House. Heard ghost stories at each one – Two of them we had heard before! When we came out, the moon was full and bright!

We sat over by the Magazine to wait for the shuttle, and the house across the street was lovely in the evening light. Back to the Motel – and time for bed.
