First – today’s adventures. I changed bedsheets, showered, ate, and headed to my chiropractor appointment in Youngwood. He adjusted my wrist and I plan on putting ice on it after I’m done with this, as prescribed. Then I stopped at Hepler’s hardware to get a part for my weed whacker before heading to Kathy’s. Her friend Mae is here for 10 days from Kentucky so we had a nice lunch and chatted all afternoon. Kathy shared her Texas vacation photos and then they looked at my Gettysburg ones. We had Veggie Pizza, applesauce, and deviled eggs for lunch, and a Klondike for dessert. It was a nice visit. I came home and trimmed the spent blooms off the Pinkey Winkey bush, did some hand sewing, and started laundry. Now – Day 3 part 2!

This was the bush in the summer.
So we had lunch at the diner again before heading back out. Our destination this afternoon was Sachs Covered Bridge (see below). This bridge was used by both the Union and Confederate armies. It’s an historic landmark, and beautiful! It was designated Pennsylvania’s “most historic bridge” in 1938; I sort of over-did the photos!

Our first view of the bridge

Colored leaves littering the creek

A very long wooden bridge – 100 foot bridge

Info

The vehicle bridge from the covered bridge.

Our friend the Heron – it sat there the whole time!

Another view of the bridge…

Beautiful day to be exploring.

The Spillway

More leaves and tree roots.

Twisted roots!

Beautiful!
We headed back to the museum to get Kathy a calendar, and realized we were there in time for the dedication of the mural painted on the side of the museum building. The artist grew up in Gettysburg – Sarah Jacobs. It’s simply beautiful. It was open to the public so we went back and listened to the representative from the Adams County Arts Council introduce the speakers and share details of the process. It really is a beautiful mural.

Introducing the speakers.

We left there and drove through the battlefields again.

Cannons in the trees

And along the stone fences

And along the paths.
We also saw some tourists exploring the battlefields on horseback.

When we drove past Little Round Top there was a Union officer tramping around the parking lot!

We hung around the battle fields and drove through downtown until almost dark, then decided on Wendy’s for supper – just a quick bite. They were short staffed and we waited FORTY-FIVE MINUTES for our mostly cold meal. We would have left but they had already taken our order and payment. Ugh. But we didn’t go hungry so that’s a blessing!

Tomorrow I plan to finish up the trip with Day 4! Here is a teaser: The first shot of the Battle of Gettysburg was fired on July 1, 1863, at approximately 7:30 a.m. by Lieutenant Marcellus E. Jones
