Let’s start with today. I was up extra early as Cameron had a 3-year checkup and Autmn’s car was out of commission. I had just left the house at 7:30am when she called me. The doctor’s office called HER and said that they didn’t see children under 4 so they had to cancel her appointment! The morning of! Needless to say she was frustrated as she had done her research on doctors in the area. I went ahead down there anyway – took her and Cameron breakfast and played with Cameron for a while. We had a fun visit.

Morning view — I’m usually not out and about this early!

My little Big Bad Wolf!

…. But a happy wolf!!!
I left there and went to work – but we were having computer problems so we didn’t get much accomplished. Ken said they heard from Rege – his surgery went well, and he’s hoping to come in a few hours next week. He was feeling pretty good but he was still on medication to help control the pain.

After grabbing a few groceries I came home and ate lunch, did a few inside chores, when raked leaves. That was not a smart move – my wrist is aching. Now it’s after 8:30 pm so I’m only going to post part of day 3.

I’m pretty sure I didn’t look that happy.

As was typical for us, we were up early. The museum we planned on seeing wasn’t open yet, so we found a section of the battle fields that we hadn’t seen and drove through them. The views were beautiful, and we learned a new crop – Sorghum! Very unusual.

We got to the museum – Beyond the Battle – right when it opened. It was a very unique experience and I highly recommend it. Our favorite part was the house. We went in a ‘house’ which was an authentic reproduction of the kitchen and sitting room of a civilian home in downtown Gettysburg during the battles. The only lights were lamps and candles. We heard the story of what happened when the troops clashed in the streets – the house shook and the windows rattled and the shells exploded. You could feel the floor moving. Every few seconds ‘bullet holes’ would appear in the walls until there were dozens around us. It was very realistic.

Great museum!

Inside the house – that was inside the museum; See the white light holes? Bullets!

The outside – bullet and cannon strikes.

There was also a video about Lincoln coming to Gettysburg to deliver the Gettysburg Address, and what happened at the boarding house where he stayed with David Wills and his 8-month pregnant wife, and how excited the citizens were. And how he attended the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church (which we attended on Sunday! – more about that later). The whole museum was filled with artifacts and videos and stories and explanations. This museum, and the Seminary Ridge Museum, are key places to understand exactly what the battles of Gettysburg meant to our country.

I bought a copy of the Gettysburg Address. It was only 3 minutes long!

PEANUTS?

TOMORROW October 30th is:

I like breadsticks but not candy corn. I am always making lists! I fear I am addicted to sugar! God bless…
On this day in History:

On this day, October 29, 1998, the Space Shuttle Discovery launched on mission STS-95 with 77-year-old John Glenn aboard, making him the oldest person ever to travel into space!
