October is half over and it doesn’t even feel like we passed September! The weather has mostly been enjoyable, sunny and bright. That may change tomorrow… I worked this morning, then came home, ate lunch and cut the grass. I promised Bear I’d usher for him at the Civic Center play tonight and tomorrow so I’ll be leaving for that in about an hour. ** Footnote: The play was very good! It was called “Almost, Maine” – just the basic set and nine small vignettes about love and relationships. Some of it was funny, some moving. I really liked them all – except one, which is OK! The last section of our New York trip was the drive home. New York State and Upper Pennsylvania were peak for colors and it put on a show for us the whole way down. It was a quiet trip so we just enjoyed the scenery.
Today I will post Greg’s message from Vanderbilt. It was Hypocrisy 2.0. So many people were struggling with the concept of hypocrisy that he went over some of the points again. It boils down to who you are going to let be God/god in your life. The Bible says we are born to sin, and predisposed to considering the wrong choices all too often. We have to take up our cross and carry it every single day, and make those choices every single day. We often make choices that we really don’t intent to make or even want to make – and struggle with making them right and asking for forgiveness. When it comes down to it, if you choose to have God be the God in your life, you will always have the Spirit within you and can walk in the Right. If you decide to live life your way with no consideration of God’s will, then you have chosen to be the god of your own life. Those are the things to be aware of, and to guard against.
On this day in 1789 George Washington made the first presidential tour – in New England. In 1860 11 year old Grace Bedell wrote to Abraham Lincoln, telling him to grow a beard. He did! President Calvin College declared the Statue of Liberty a National Monument in 1924, and I Love Lucy debuted on CBS in 1951. President LBJ signed a bill in 1966 creating the US Department of Transportation (So my whole career is HIS FAULT!!! I started working the very next year.) In 1989 Billy Graham was given a star on Hollywood Blvd – the first clergyman to have a star! Penny Marshall (Laverne & Shirley) was born in 1943, and our 38th president, Gerald Ford, married Betty Warren in 1948.
